Expedition Heating Chamber $189.00 Expedition Before Assembly

The Expedition is a large, collapsible heating chamber to kill bed bugs. When stored, it takes up very little space. When assembled, it is 31" L x 17" W x 23" H. You can heat all kinds of objects in it. The contents are heated to a temperature that kills all stages of bed bugs, about 120F. Unlike others on the market, it uses radiant heat which heats the objects, not the air. Instead of a heater blowing in hot air, it uses Thermal Conductive Heat Film which lines the box. It requires an 8 hour period to guarantee that all bed bugs are eliminated.

You can put just about any cloth, wood or metal object into the Expedition because it does not reach a temperature that will harm most products. Exceptions: no food, medicine, liquids, aerosols or electronic devices. The interior is heated to around 120F, less than the temperature in Phoenix on some days, but enough to kill bed bugs. It is an effective, non-toxic method that is also inexpensive.

 HOW IT WORKS
Both Packtite units rely upon hot air blown into the closed chamber to heat the contents. Both include a heater, thermometer, timer and a electical cord. The temperature needs to reach 120F. to kill all stages of bed bugs, so the time to reach that temperature will vary greatly depending upon the density and heat conductivity of the goods you put in.

To operate:

Put your suitcase or other goods into either Packtite, following the instructions in the manual. Place the thermometer in the middle. Zip up the case. Plug the cord into an appropriate outlet. When the thermometer reaches 120, set the timer for 1 hour. When the time ends, unplug the cord and empty the contents. Any bed bugs in the case are now dead. Total time for a suitcase is about 4 hours. The closet varies widely with the kind and amount of the goods put in.

Each side of the Expedition is covered with a very thin thermally conductive heating film. The film heats the items you place into the box to the temperature required to kill all stages of bed bugs, around 125F. The film heats the contents by infrared. The film itself does not get hot, nor does the air in the box. Only the contents absorb the energy and get hot. There is no external heater, so this method is very safe.

To assemble the box, you put the side panels around the base and secure it to the base by plastic rivets. The sides are held together by a velcro strip.

To operate the Expedition Heat Chamber:

Place the items you want to make bed bug free into a large plastic bag. These can include all bedding, furniture cushions, books, cloth, toys, anything you suspect might have the bugs. We recommend that you do not put any of these into the Expedition:

 aerosols liquids wax oily rags
 chocolate crayons
cosmetics plants medicine vitamins creams cameras
paintings photos DVDs CDs hard disks computers

When travelling, put your suitcase and any other items that might be contaminated into a bag before you enter your home or building. That way, no bugs can escape.

Place the bag into the Expedition and close it with the top. Turn the unit on and let it run for 8 hours to make sure that all parts of the contents reach 125F. It takes this long because some objects do not conduct heat as well as others. You want to be sure.

In the Package:
Power base, rivet fasteners, connected side panels with thermally conductive heating film, insulated lid, heavy-duty bags, user manual.
